This blog post is based on the project "Discovering Grammar Through Translation" on LanguageARC. To contribute, click here.
The Discovering Grammar Through Translation project has been on LanguageARC since 2019 and by now has amassed a significant number of participant contributions. There are a variety of languages represented in these translations. This provides us with invaluable data that can show us how different individuals who speak the same language can translate the same sentence differently and how linguistic features such as plurality, tense, and gender function in different languages. Below shows a collection of data sourced directly from participant contributions, giving us a look into how native speakers of different languages translate the same English sentence. The data is categorized by displaying the English sentence, then the language a participant has translated it into, followed by the translation (in the case that multiple translations appear under a language header, this means that there were multiple translations in that language from different participants).
